NAME: Oscars: Best Actors and Actresses TYPE: Census SIZE: 156 observations, 10 variables DESCRIPTIVE ABSTRACT: Every year actors and actresses are chosen to receive the Oscars awards for best actor and for best actress. This dataset contains information about each of the winners for each of the 77 annual Oscar awards. Although there have been only 77 Oscars, there are 78 male winners and 78 female winners because ties happened on two occasions (1933 for the best actor and 1969 for the best actress). There are no missing values. PEDAGOGICAL NOTES: This dataset is a good dataset for comparing age across gender and looking for trends in age over time (1929-2005). It includes categorical variables such as the winner’s birth place and the month the winner was born, which allows students to investigate whether some states, or months are more likely to have Oscar winners.
